GETTING HERE AND AWAY
Connect to the Deh Cho circle route from points east, west and south!
From Calgary/Edmonton, Alberta:
Choose between two driving routes:
From Edmonton, take Highway 2 north through Athabasca and Slave Lake. Follow the shoreline of Lesser Slave Lake as you head west on Highway 2, past beaches and prime bird watching spots, while heading to Grimshaw through Peace River.
Or head north on Highway 43 from Edmonton through Whitecourt, Fox Creek and Valleyview to Grande Prairie in northwestern Alberta. From Grande Prairie, take Highway 2 north to connect to the Mackenzie Highway at Grimshaw, or continue on Highway 43 north to connect to the Alaska Highway at Dawson Creek.
From Calgary/Banff/Jasper, Alberta:
Begin by travelling the Icefields Parkway between Banff and Jasper. Continue your drive in the Canadian Rockies taking Highway 16 east to Hinton. Turn north on Highway 40 and stop in at Grande Cache before continuing on to Grande Prairie. Connect to the Mackenzie Highway at Grimshaw by taking Highway 2 north or connect to the Alaska Highway at Dawson Creek via Highway 43 north.
From Vancouver/Prince George, British Columbia:
From Prince George, go north on Highway 97 into the mountains through the Pine Pass. Here you can stop at Bijoux Falls, Azouetta Lake or the Pine River. Continue through to Chetwynd to arrive at Dawson Creek, Mile Zero of the Alaska Highway.
Fly/Drive options:
Fly into Calgary, Edmonton or Vancouver and rent an RV, SUV, truck or car. Each city has an international airport, various vehicle rental options, and an excellent supply of camping gear.
Tip: Be sure your driver’s license is current and that you always carry car registration papers or rental contracts. If coming from abroad, check that your insurance policy covers travel in Canada.
